Growing up in the late 70’s early 80’s.

The smell and excitement of a plastic Halloween costume with your favorite tv personality- or superhero- marked and labeled to clarify any confusion the spectator may have about what it is that you are. Arcades and Atari. TV shows that were clever and crafty, “up your nose with a rubber hose”, the Muppet Show. Mork and Mindy. The Hulk. Star Wars.

Things. Records and cassette tapes- the bigger the box the better. The birth of hip-hop, b-boys, the DJ, the MC, the writer. The skateboard revolution. Roller skating on the street. Bowling leagues and speak and spell. Rock and roll with Kiss pinball. Lite-brite…

In this installation I chose to paint on and about the objects that channel this culture of the late 70’s, early 80’s into society. A tv, A radio, a costume that transformed you even when you took it off, and those special shoes made to do that special thing- Where did you get those?
